Formula 1 reported on Wednesday, October 28, that Cadillac will keep Sergio Pérez through at least 2029. The report says the American team announced the extension ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, the round where Pérez is due to make his 300th start.
Formula 1 timestamped that story at 3:03 PM UTC. US clocks were still on daylight time on Wednesday, and they do not move back until Sunday. That puts the timestamp at 11:03 AM Eastern, 10:03 AM Central, 9:03 AM Mountain and 8:03 AM Pacific.
What Pérez and the team said
Pérez, quoted by Formula 1, said there is still a lot of work ahead and that he is "fully committed for the next three years." He also called extending the deal a natural continuation of a project he believed in from the team's first day.
Dan Towriss, Cadillac's chief executive, told Formula 1 the team wanted Pérez's "talent and leadership" so the first-year project would have continuity. Towriss described building a competitive team as a long-term job. Those lines are the team's account of its own decision, as carried by Formula 1.
Where this leaves the lineup question
Pérez joined Cadillac for its debut season in 2026. Formula 1 notes that he and the team have yet to score a point, and it describes the squad as having improved through the year while it tries to move up the grid. Our standings after Austin still show Cadillac on zero in the constructors' table.
The extension answers the part of the 2027 seat story that was about Pérez. Our open-seats piece said he and Valtteri Bottas were already under contract for 2027, while team principal Marcin Budkowski had declined to close the lineup in public. Wednesday's announcement sets Pérez's stay through at least 2029. The Formula 1 report does not add a new line on Bottas, or on reserve Colton Herta. Those threads stay where we left them, on the Cadillac hub.
A home race that was already a milestone
The contract news shares a week with the milestone we previewed in Cadillac takes Pérez home for his 300th Grand Prix. Formula 1 says he has six Grand Prix wins, from spells at Sauber, McLaren, Force India, Racing Point and Red Bull, and that start number 300 comes in front of his home crowd.
Session times for that weekend, in Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific, are in our Mexico City race times guide. Nothing in the contract announcement changes the timetable.
